New Irish Science Fiction Association February Meeting

Hi Everyone,

Apologies for the short noticeof details about this month's NISFA meeting (we did announce the speaker last month, but we've been a little slow getting the details out).

Feb: CE Murphy will be talking about urban fantasy. She will take a look at how the genre has changed in the last twenty years, discuss what makes a story urban fantasy vs the extremely popular "paranormal romance" that's out there, and then open things up to discussion.

Mar: Sorcha Power will be speaking about the bastardisation of the science fiction genre due to the emergence of a degenerate form of literature known as fan fiction. The title is "fan-fiction the plague of the the internet." In a nutshell she will NIFSA on a guided tour of the of the barbarous, ill written, plaugurific pifflle that poses itself as art and destroys the stories, ideas and characters we hold dear from the ninja turtles to the war of the worlds.

She shall be separate it into three parts,

  1. The rare occasions When fan-fiction gets it right,
  2. The few fan-fiction gets it wrong.
  3. The many where fan-fiction makes you want to unsee, (add the disclaimer the golden rule of the internet...remember you can't unsee.)

Apr: The Guest speaked will be Derek Gunn, author of Vampire Apocalypse.

As always we will have a raffle at the meeting. Proceeds from the meeting and the raffle will be used for future meetings. Please bring along any old sci-fi tat or books you don't want to donate as prizes.
We look forward to seeing you.

Caitriona, Frank, Rory and James
